Australian actor Hugo Weaving was awarded the V Australia IF Living Legend Award at last night’s 10th Inside Films Awards.
"This year IF have awarded the V Australia IF Living Legend award to the incredible acting talent Hugo Weaving as he really represents the integrity, passion and uniqueness of our industry and certainly the spirit that the IF Awards embrace. He has a vast body of cinematic work over the past twenty years and has plenty more to come", said IF Awards Producer Clare Sawyer.
Hugo Weaving burst onto the Australian scene in the mini-series Bodyline and then went onto impress audiences and critics alike in the feature film PROOF opposite Russell Crowe and Genevieve Picot. The world outside Australia noticed Hugo’s talent with his turn as the fabulous Tick Belrose in The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. Next stop would be his biggest role, the ever multiplying bad guy, Mr Smith in The Matrix.
After winning a swag of Awards for his role in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Hugo was recognised with his first IF Award in 2005 for Little Fish. That same year he starred as V in V For Vendetta – Weaving has kept a good balance, having worked on big budget US movies like The Matrix, V For Vendetta and Lord Of The Rings, whilst simultaneously maintaining a working life in Australia with budget local films such as Peaches, Little Fish and more recently The Tender Hook.
Hugo Weaving’s films include such classics as Proof and Priscilla, Queen of The Desert in the mix as well as regularly performing at Sydney and Melbourne Theatre Companies and in dozens of smaller Australian short films.
Celebrating its 10th year in 2008 the V Australia Inside Film Awards celebrate and champion Australian film and creative talent as decided by the general public.
The 2008 event took place on 13 November at the Royal Pines Resort on the Gold Coast, Queensland. The ceremony is broadcast live on SBS Television with delayed telecasts also screening on SHOWTIME.
