Comedian, writer, and actor, Kitty Flanagan, will deliver the 2025 Women in Media Oration Honouring Caroline Jones AO at a May gala dinner event in Sydney.
Flanagan is perhaps best known as the co-writer, co-director, and star of popular ABC comedy series, Fisk.
Initially told her titular female protagonist was “too unlikeable”, Flanagan has since gone on to break broadcast and streaming records with Fisk, which surpassed three million viewers for its latest premiere, and ranked in Netflix’s Top 10 in 10 countries.
The series has also won multiple AACTA, Logie, and Screen Producers Australia (SPA) Awards.
Flanagan’s work includes appearing as herself on The Weekly with Charlie Pickering (ABC) and as media manager Rhonda in the Working Dog series Utopia (ABC). She previously fronted a segment on Network 10’s The Project and done guest spots for the comedy news quiz program Have You Been Paying Attention.
The writer and performer is the second speaker for the 2025 Women in Media Oration Honouring Caroline Jones AO, following journalist Kate McClymont’s inaugural address last year.
To be held on May 28, the gala dinner event is designed to honour the legacy of long-time Women in Media patron Caroline Jones, who mentored many women across the media industry.
Women in Media Australia general manager Kym Middleton said Flanagan’s speech would be “immensely special” because the audience would get to see and engage with her in a very different way than they are used to.
“She has an incredible, even enviable, ability to engage and entertain broad audiences,” she said.
“This will be an unmissable evening for anyone in media and entertainment, and anyone who admires great Australian creatives.”
