Sony exhibits a range of HD and 4K technologies at SMPTE 2013

Press Release

At SMPTE 2013, Sony is exhibiting a range of technologies for HD and 4K that embody its ‘beyond definition’ vision and demonstrate innovation in the areas of shooting, workflow and viewing and developing compelling live production solutions that extend beyond broadcast to markets including sports production, houses of worship, corporate events and education.

Sony Australia Senior Product Marketing Manager for Content Creation Nick Buchner said, “For Sony this year’s SMPTE is all about demonstrating our breakthrough technologies in HD and 4K and how we are pushing their limits. Obviously there will be a big emphasis on the cameras of the moment, our groundbreaking 4K CineAlta™ F65, PMW-F55 and PMW-F5 models. We’ll be highlighting their excellent picture quality and colour reproduction, their modular design and innovative features such as frame image scan, demonstrating how they can be used to shoot very cost-effectively in 4K, 2K and HD.”

Aside from showcasing its newer technologies and solutions, Sony will also be demonstrating products that over the past year have become widely used throughout the broadcast industry. Sony’s OLED professional monitors already feature the best available image quality for critical picture evaluation, and now Sony has incorporated industry-leading wider viewing angles into its new ‘A’ Series OLED monitors.

The following new products will make their Australasian show debut at SMPTE 2013:

PMW-F55 CineAlta 4K Digital Cinematography Camera: Introduced earlier this year for motion picture, TV drama, commercial, documentary and reality production, the versatile PMW-F55 will be shown at SMPTE 2013 in both stand-alone and live production configurations. The forthcoming CA-4000 adapter will allow the PMW-F55 to be integrated via SMPTE fibre into a fully-featured live production mode suitable for multi-camera 4K coverage of sports, concerts and other major events.

Anycast Touch (AWS-750) Live Content Producer: The Anycast Touch AWS-750 Live Content Producer is a powerful content creation tool for live events, education, houses of worship and corporate seminars. With an all-in-one style featuring a double touch-screen, Anycast Touch enables intuitive operation and eliminates the cumbersome setup and signal adjustment process typically required when connecting various devices. It also features a camera remote control capability – allowing operators to easily control one or more compatible pan/tilt/zoom cameras at remote locations, such as Sony’s BRC series cameras. With a variety of powerful functionalities packed in its compact size, the Anycast Touch is ideal for space-limited applications.

“A” Series TRIMASTER EL™ OLED Professional Monitors: Sony’s latest “A” Series of its TRIMASTER EL™ OLED professional monitors range feature significantly improved viewing angles, reducing colour shift by half** when compared with their predecessor models. In fact, the new “A” Series models offer industry-leading wide viewing angles in the whole professional flat panel market. This enables group monitoring by video engineers or colourists, which improves overall productivity and workflow efficiency. The new “A” Series include the BVM-E250A and BVM-E170A master monitors for high-end cinema and broadcast applications, the BVM-F250A and BVM-F170A master monitors optimised for TV productions and broadcasting, plus the versatile PVM-2541A and PVM-1741A picture monitors which suit a wide range of monitoring applications.

MVS-3000 Compact Switcher: Sony’s MVS-3000 multi-format production switcher is a compact yet powerful switcher from Sony that is ideally suited for production studios, stadiums, houses of worship, and OB vehicles requiring multiple inputs in a limited space. The MVS-3000 comes with sophisticated capabilities such as two mix effects (M/Es), four keyers per M/E, each with the MVS high-performance chromakey, 2.5D resizers, colour correction, and more. With the standard multi‑viewer output, users save space on additional monitoring, enabling a reduction in total system cost.

Sony will be exhibiting on stand D35 at SMPTE 2013 at the Darling Harbour Exhibition Centre in Sydney from 23rd-26th July 2013.
