Cate Shortland to win Best Director for Lore at WIFT awards

CATE Shortland will be awarded the prize for Best Director at TheWIFTS Foundation 2012 International Visionary Awards for her work on Lore.

 Lore is Shortland’s second feature film and follows the plight of a group of children in the aftermath of World War II.

The film premiered in competition at the Sydney Film Festival, won the Prix du Public at Locarno International Film Festival, received four top honours at the Stockholm Film Festival and has been selected as the Australian entry for Best Foreign Language Film Oscar at the 85th annual awards ceremony of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

The Womens’ International Film Television Showcase is an organization dedicated to bringing together women from all over the world through film, television, business, the humanities, the environment and the world of sports. This year’s award ceremony will see more than 20 women from 11 countries and six continents honoured for their work.

TheWIFTS Foundation International Visionary awards, now in its fifth year, will be held in Los Angeles tomorrow evening at Quentin Tarantino’s New Beverly Cinema.
